In the Spring Semester of 2021, before transferring to SMCM from CSM, I took an intermediate class on digital photography. For the final project, I created a series of images that were all hands with various elements. For most of the images, I painted a backdrop to help enhance the feeling of the scene. For example, I painted a rainy day landscape with water droplets on a window for the backdrop, and my model posed while water was poured over their hands. I was particularly proud of this series of photographs and feel that they work best as a group, but the one I am most satisfied with is Fire. The background and lighting were set up simply, the hand being lit entirely by the flames themselves. It was the only photograph in the series that I opted to not use a background element. The timing for this image was tricky, and it involved quite a bit of patience as well as a healthy amount of bravery from the model. In the end, though, I was incredibly pleased with the result and it remains a piece of artwork that I am proud of.
